You’re exhausted. You’re overwhelmed. You’re always busy, and you don’t have time for self-care much less a selfcare routine.
If this is you, then I’ve got your back!
As a mom of 2 girls 5 and under, a full-time job, and a mother in law who constantly gets on my nerves (lol oops! :P), I often try to take whatever me-time I can get. After my now toddler was born, the only free minutes I had in my day were the minutes driving back from dropping my oldest at preschool. Sad!
However, with my girls getting older and more independent, I make time for self care few times a month.
Research suggests that the more we take care of ourselves, the more confident, productive, and healthy we will be. Self-care helps to reduce anxiety, stress, and improves your mood, health, and your relationship with yourself and others.
Self-care is NOT selfish.
Only you can decide what aspect of your life needs uplifting and it is your own responsibility to make that happen.
After losing my father and having a miscarriage in the same month, I was in a bad place. Angry, upset, confused, but mostly angry. I let myself slip away, physically, mentally, emotionally, and soon enough; my life was like quicksand, with me constantly fighting to NOT sink to the bottom.
I am not saying that I am a 100% better today, but when I realized I had to pull myself out of feeling this way, I started by taking very small self-care baby steps. Getting a nice haircut, putting on a mask, eating my favorite chocolate, indulging in a Netflix marathon…. just small simple steps to reduce my anxiety and elevate my mood. These small steps eventually made me confident enough to take bigger steps like attempting yoga, taking walks, eating healthier (work-in-progress!), and being more patient with my kids.
The simplest way to get started on a self-care routine is to create a self-care kit. It can be a basket, or a box, or basically a drawer full of things ready to go for some serious relaxation. This DIY self-care kit could be anything that soothes and calms your senses OUT OF a busy, stressful state. When choosing items for your self-care kit, ask yourself how you want to feel after using it. And, then select your items to add to the kit.
So, are you ready to create your fun “mud-pack, chill-pill combo”? 😉 Well, here are some things you could add to your self-care kit.
