Self-Discovery Checklist – 25 Questions that Will Free Your Mind4 min read

How well do you know yourself? Have you ever sat down to really ponder about your life and future? Maybe you have, and I think that’s wonderful! BUT, many of us never I really make time for intentional self-discovery.

What do I mean by that?

We pick up cues from our surrounding and people we know, and just go with the flow of things on a day to day basis. Who really has the time to sit down and ponder on deep self-discovery questions? Certainly not a busy working mom with 2 kids? However, thinking about yourself is the best way to figure out who you are, what you need, and where you are going in our life. It can help you visualize your true self; who you actually are, and not who people say that you are. And it will help you focus on important things, create goals, and make better decisions.

There are many voices in our lives telling us who to be, how to act, and what to do with our lives, such as on social media. Browsing through Instagram we often fantasize the life we hope to have, instead of focusing on the life we have, and want. This fantasy life, if we were to attempt is often temporary. Sooner than later, you will hope that you can drop the façade and just be yourself. But let’s face it, if our true self consists of a messy house with imperfect gray hair lines, no one really wants to see that. Right?

When we see others having these glammed lifestyles, we lose perspective of our life and who we truly are.

Everyone says I am an extrovert. I am bubbly and chatty, and I love traveling, and being around people. All of it is true, however, I am only about 30% of that (a higher % on the friendly bit😉). In reality, I am an introvert. If you pulled out a Briggs Personality screening, I am sure all signs will say that I am! 🙂

The point is, we aren’t always who others think we are, and sometimes even WE don’t believe it. But as I said, we go with the flow of things, and never really pause to know ourselves better. This can be exhausting and draining on our mental health; living accidentally instead of intentionally. And then one day, boom, we start feeling lost, empty, and without any true sense of our life’s direction.

Until we take the time to ponder on some thought-provoking questions, we will continue to float with the current, with little to no hope for self-discovery.

Today I would like to share some self-discovery questions that I believe will help you find gratitude, discover possibilities, clarify concerns, and enhance your mental health.

So, get comfortable and read on. If you already do regular journaling, you can incorporate these in your daily musings.
