Like most of us I also have a busy and jam-packed schedule. Between home, kids, and a full-time work-at-home job, I basically live from my planner. Whether it’s a haircut, or meeting at Arya’s school, or a simple coffee with a friend, I write everything in my planner to stay productive and on top of things.
Along with excelling at planning every other aspect of my life, I have begun adding self-care routines to my schedule. Trust me, this is huge because after I began working from home, and then adding kids to the mix, I was hopeless at taking care of myself.
But I realize that the only way I can do everything else is by taking care of myself FIRST! As they say, self-care is not selfish 😉 and after repeating this mantra one too many times, I established a simple yet effective facial routine to my daily habits.
Skincare is a big deal for me. I am not too keen on makeup and the different makeup products out there. Generally, I find something I like and works and stick to it. This is due to my sensitive skin type as well as my frugal nature that prevents me from spending too much on makeup products I may use once or never!
However, I do love skincare products and try to keep things natural by using natural products and home-made remedies.
So here is my simple yet effective facial routine. I have broken it between AM and PM along with all the products I use and LOVE!!
My Simple yet Very Effective Facial Routine
This is not a sponsored post however I have used affiliate links. Please see disclosure policy. Also do a skin test before trying anything new. These products work for my skin type hence I am recommending them.
AM Facial Routine
Wash – I don’t use any face wash in the morning unless I was lazy to wash my face the night before. If I need to use it, I use my favorite Philosophy’s Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser. It is gentle and gets all the gunk and make up out completely.
Toner – Previously I used the Neutrogena’s Alcohol Free toner, but then I switched to Belief Witch Hazel toner many years back. I always tone my skin before I apply moisturizer and this habit is from before I knew much about skincare.
Serum – One of my friends introduced me to this line and I absolutely Ole Henriksen products. I use the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum which is super light-weight and absorbing, and sometimes I use the Ole Henriksen Glow Cycle Retin-ALT Power Serum which helps with my pores, dark spots, and lines etc. I love them both!!!!!
Moisturizer – I use the Ole Henriksen C-Rush Vitamin C Gel moisturizer and I love it! It hydrates my skin perfectly without making it oily or shiny and it is super light so goes on smoothly giving a healthy glow to my skin. Most days I only wear this and nothing else after this all day and night! This moisturizer helped rid my melasma or the dark spots on my face after my second pregnancy.
Eye Serum – I am lazy about using eye serums but after 2 babies, sleepless nights, and dry skin popping around my eyes during winter, I started taking them seriously. My favorite eye serum is Saturday Skin’s Wide-Awake Brightening Eye. Avocado being one of the ingredients got me sold but besides that, I find this serum to be smooth, hydrating, and really brightening. It reduces the puffiness and hydrates the skin under my eyes and is sensitive as well. I am always scared to try new products especially eye creams, but this is a winner for sure!
PM Facial Routine
Wash – I use the Philosophy Purity cleanser that I mentioned above. However, I have used the Ole Henriksen Clean Truth Foaming Cleanser and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser , and I really like them too. If I wear make up during the day, I wipe my face with baby wipes first and then use Purity to get everything off!
Toner – I like to keep things super easy at night because I need to get the kids to bed, and wrap up the house work, so at night, I wipe my face with rose water. This I get from the Indian store but you can get rosewater anywhere including Amazon and Sephora.
Night-time cream – I am a long time Neutrogena fan and I absolutely love the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Night Cream. It is super silky and hydrating, and in the morning my skin feels soft, bright, and fresh. I get the same benefits from Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins Resurfacing cream as well, and I often alternate between these two night creams.
Oils that I have tried and love:
Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate – another favorite! I have never used this during the day; only at night when I don’t have time to put on night cream etc. It is non-greasy and gives my skin a glow without making it oily. I would recommend using it with foundation as well, especially if you have dry skin.
So there you go guys! Simple, yet effective facial routine.
